Driving around Monterey in the BMW Hydrogen 7.

The liquid hydrogen tank is in the trunk (at -418°F), and a H2 button on the steering wheel switches the V12 engine between hydrogen and gasoline.

BMW intends to release it as a limited production 7-Series. It looked pretty polished to me, but I noticed a slight lag when flooring it on hydrogen.

  1. I take it, "It’s a gas"?

  2. Doesn’t putting this technology in a V12 defeat the purpose?

  3. This is so awesome, but the part that bothers me is that BMW had these in the 80’s with a switch that went back and forth just the same, but lobbyists from OPEC killed it.

  4. natural gas.. H2.. people, get yourself together. I`d by the Tesla, anyway.

  5. That 4.2kg per 100km looks out.
Isn’t it usually grams per km?
Which would put this one at 42g/km?
But surely it must be on petrol(gas if you insist) as hydrogen cars are co2 free, aren’t they?

  6. The BMW Hydrogen cars are not zero emissions because they burn the hydrogen in the engine (super low emissions). It is not a fuel cell generating electricity, but a internal combustion engine that can burn hydrogen or petrol
