A missing o-ring (in the motor delay section) led to the rapid demise of the forward closure of the rocket motor casing. This creates a rapid “air brake” of sorts, as the pressure now escapes forward through the rocket, scorching everything inside. At full size, you can see propellant debris showering down from the U-turn event.
It was quite a spectacle as Erik’s rocket burned the whole way down, and fried the chute. (next frame)
