Have you ever been to Dubai? I have seen many documentaries and photos of it, its creation by a woman architect from Toronto, even the building of the indoor ski slope. (Daily Planet is a good source of this information)
What, to your knowledge, is similar and unique about this resort?
oddrinse: yes. I hope the weather improved for you there.
Mimosa: Yes, I have….
The beach is man-made, and the context is surreal. Dubai has built huge artificial islands in the Gulf, with causeway access leading to highrises. The Burj Al Arab is a famous one, and now they are building an offshore map of the world where people can buy "countries" to develop….
P.S. The Burj has a cool bar jutting out near the top, and the helicopter pad makes for a great golf tee…
Steve I am glad you went there! actually, I now remember seeing that photo before in your photostream.
I first saw a documentary on Dubai and the Bur Al Arab in early 2004. Soon after, we got a computer (2004/03/31) and the virtual visits of this and other large hotels in Dubai was among the first things I saw. They have the 360° views. I have seen and learned much since.
It is in many ways a surreal place. So many wealthy people too.
not just golf steve, tennis too. now i’m fine with heights but i have an intense fear of falling. i’m not sure if i could even walk around up there.
the building taking place in dubai is unreal. i think that i’ve watched the documentary on the palm islands a half dozen times. and then there’s the cranes that blanket the sky.
