On a cool crisp ride this morning, we came across a nest of sculpted trails. I am landing on a big down ramp.

We all felt like kids again.

  1. You can’t post a picture this great without disclosing the location! Please? Update: Sorry, now I see the tag. Great shot! We had a skeggs ride cancel this morning. We didn’t want to slide on the ice. 🙁

  2. chadh — Skeggs was fine by this afternoon — only one small patch of ice was to be seen. The photos below are geotagged if you want the exact location of the photo above. Treat that spot well! It’s the only mini-skatepark for bikes in the area I know of. Let me know if you’ve got other favorite spots like that.

Jurvetson — did anybody go for those two big kickers?

Here are some from my last times there:

    Hops!

    The end of the ride

    Lucha Launches!

  3. Great to see fellow flickrites in the bay area with a love for the sport. See you on the trails!

  4. Bon jeu de mots! (la caféine me fait sauter)

Looks like fun! It is a good way to relieve any stress.

Seen on your photo stream. (?)

  5. its a little bit to lightnend

would have liked to see some air

    (ACTION NOW)

  6. Me too! 😉

Coaching someone else on composition is non-trivial, I have found. And then there is the challenge of actually getting some big air. =)

Next time, I will set it up for video (something I learned from JJ San’s perfect frame capture)

Chadh: keep an eye out for benjiman too. He is a Skeggs regular.

JJ San: I was wondering if someone in the flickr universe had photos of big air jumps there… and sure enough, the answer emerged in a couple hours. Just fantastic. And no, none of us was brave enough to launch off those two kickers you see on the right. They seem to send you straight up, and so I could not see how to "test" them at lower speeds. If you do take them slow, do you plop down on the flat hilltop?

  7. Thanks for your reply! And to answer your question — I wasn’t brave enough either! The two pics I have posted above of jumps are (1) launching just to the right of the big kickers (if you’re looking from the approach) and (2) going up the hillside that you are going down in your pic (after getting speed from the "cliff" nearby).

Those kickers seemed to have some pretty uneven landing if you land on the backside of that mound — but I’d love to see the people who built those jumps do their thing.

And regarding the video capture — it’s the perfect way to take a "picture" of yourself when you’re all alone up there 🙂

Well now you got me pining for this spot, so I might have to go next weekend… and I’ll take another look at those kickers.

  8. Been there, did it on a 16 lb. carbon road bike. That’s at the top of the hill in Arastradero Preserve, near the big bowl, which is also fun on a road bike. Windy Hill, Spring Ridge Trail is also challenging on a road race bike with road tires.
