The Maxim photo editor in London took a fancy to one of my photos… and I just now saw the, uh, delicate captioning that came out in the Feb 07 issue.

I guess I never expected to get published in a popular bird-watching magazine like this…. 😉

The original photo is probably my best nature shot of 2006.

  3. Excellent! I’m so happy for you! Congratulations!

  4. The magic of Creative Commons. Congratulations! Amazing original shot too, btw. Nice: "pop goes the weasel" — great tag. Very funny!

  5. Did Maxim abide by the terms of your CC license, or does this belong in the Ripoffs group?

  6. Telstar: yes, they abided just fine, and even checked in with me first. (All of my photos are free to use with attribution, so it was pretty easy)

Good Day: I agree. The crop is very helpful. I did not want to do it with the original because I like the context to know that it is a nature shot and not a zoo or something staged.

  7. As expected, they’re such nice wholesome boys at Maxim.

  8. Félicitations! It is quite exciting to be seen like this!

  9. Congratulations, Jurvetson! Keep up the good work!

  10. Congratulations! Although I had seen the photo before, I never saw the sad and surprised face expression of the rodent.

  11. Ahhh good, at least there’s something stimulating being pushed at the proles… 😉

  12. Good of them to send you a free copy of the Mag…how else would you have seen it ? 😉 Congrats!

  13. I hope they paid you for using it.

I laughed when I read your mention of it being in a "bird watching" magazine, considering the content of the magazine… you’re pretty accurate!

  14. Congrats!!! You just exposed your work to a whole new market!!! How nice of Maxim to provide a link to your blog.

  15. Did they ask you first? I assume they did…but what a wonderful congratulations for you…I love it when my flickr contacts/friends make a publishing!

  18. Jason, does Maxim provide monetary compensation for using photos such as Jurvetson’s?

  19. It didn’t come up because I offer my photos for free. For me, it’s much more interestng to see where they may end up. Other big surprises were: Science magazine, the cover of a board game, and on TV for the Charlie Rose show. (a set of examples)

  20. haha–nice eagle! lolol

    Congrats, dude!
