The waterfalls emerge from tear ducts midway up the face of the cliffs and drain into the fabric of lush foliage below.

Parts of Jurassic Park were filmed in this remote valley in Puu Kukui, the second wettest place on Earth.

  1. What’s the wettest place on earth? Or was "second wettest" an oceanographic joke? 🙂

  2. So green! I always loved the scenery in Jurassic Park.

  3. Jaems: the wettest is nearby, on the island of Kauai (39 ft. of rain/year). I remember seeing the Jurassic Park crew there, and I was a very curious monkey and tried to walk on to the set.

glyph hunter: NI! Here lies the coveted shrubbery of the Holy Grail. There is a lot of detail in the full-size version.

And yes, it was from the air. A hovering helicopter. The image stabilizer did a decent job for most of the frame. (I notice some interesting motion blur in the bottom left corner.)

I don’t recall the exact distance, but it felt pretty close. =) We were tucked down in a narrow valley with greenery like this on both sides and clouds above. The vertical is uncropped (full frame sensor with a 24mm wide lens)

  4. Stunning. I’m headed to that wettest place on earth next month – the north shore of Kauai. (Although we’ll be staying primarily on the sunnier southern shore.)

Assuming I can keep my camera dry, I’ll bring back photos for comparison. 🙂

  5. touchingly beautiful

  6. Awesomely refreshing!

  7. Tourist literature promotes Mount Wai‘ale‘ale as the wettest place on earth. However, although it averaged more than 460 inches (11,680 mm) of rain over the last 32 years, Mawsynram, India averaged 11,873 mm (467.4 inches) over a period of 39 years.

  8. Beautiful calming green

  9. What a lush, magnificent place!

  10. It’s so beautiful, it made my eyes water.
