I assume the foreshortening of your 400 mm lens makes that person appear more in danger than he actually was.

km6xo: Over 12 feet tall, if I recall. It’s at 400mm zoom, and there is a large launch pad engulfed in smoke.
mic888: right. No planes. We are in the Black Rock Desert with a special waiver from the FAA to launch to 100ft. altitudes.
good_dood: No CNN out there, but we did make the cover of the New York TImes…. and there was great video captured from some of the rockets. Here is a frame I posted:

Excellent timing. You don’ get a second shot of something like that I can imagine.
I love all the mirages you get in these photos. What was the temp? Didn’t see that in the EXIF 😉
