A fine way to end the weekend… a pod of dolphins at dusk.

Their social clustering reminds me: “Dolphins have a massive new brain area, the paralimbic lobe, that we do not possess. The paralimbic lobe is an outgrowth of the cingulate gyrus, which is known to elaborate social communication and social emotions in all other mammals. Thus, dolphins may have social thoughts and feelings that we can only vaguely imagine.” (Mind Wide Open, p.225.)

  1. excellent

does that quote vaguely justify their ruthless hazing sojourns where violent group buggery of members of their "lower caste" is common?! i’d hate to see a maladjusted dolphin 😉 or would the correct term be "misdelphinic"?

  2. A wonderful scene from a priviledged spot!!

  3. thanks. biotron – I don’t know about that… Might that be what I saw here:

    Dolphin Chum

  4. "dolphins playing rugby" ! – aka rugger… close….

i can’t find any immediate references online but it did feature on a BBC David Attenborough documentary, possibly "The Blue Planet"

That is such a cool glimpse into their lives…. dawn and dusk seem to be the most intimate times. Really love your commentary.

    Ambassadors for sure
