This baby bobcat just ate a yummy rodent, probably a vole like the one that lost its head last weekend…

While abundant, the bobcat is stealthy and well camouflaged, and thus a special find. This one was the size of a house cat. I have never seen one this small.

  1. lucky you weren’t having a nap…:)

  2. Very, very hard to catch a glimpse of a bobcat…I’ve tried many times in Texas…great shot!

  3. I especially love the little tips of black on his ears. Well done!

  4. Rancho San Antonio County Park in Cupertino is a great place for bobcat sightings. I would see them frequently while running the upper trails, but they will even be seen right alongside the lower trails. Some are hardly spooked by people — that park has the tamest wildlife.

  5. The tongue is a very nice bonus to a great photo! The World Through My Eyes

  6. Great capture with it’s tongue out! Nicely done.

  7. In the hundreds of days I’ve spent in the backcountry I’ve yet to see either cougar or bobcat/lynx up close. Wolf and bear, yes (charged by a girz, once)

    Great photo!

  8. Excellent, very dangerous looking baby.

  9. Wonderful shot. How lucky you were to get a such a good look at this elusive creature.

  10. thanks y’all. I am just amazed at the wildlife – especially raptors and various rodent-eaters – in HMB.

The Coastside Land Trust liked this one too. They are helping preserve these magical lands.
