The raccoons were boldly taking advantage of the feral cat’s food.

But with me sitting behind her for support, she was more brazen and defended her Kitty Chow.

Were in the next room at the hoe down
Rocky burst in and grinning a grin
He said Danny boy this is a showdown
But Daniel was hot, he drew first and shot
And Rocky collapsed in the corner, ah

"And now Rocky Raccoon he fell back in his room
    Only to find Gideon’s bible
Gideon checked out and he left it no doubt
To help with good Rocky’s revival, ah

  2. Um, who has *your* back?? I would never get this close to a raccoon!

  3. Dude! Have you ever seen a racoon attack a dog…U G L Y (my 90 pound hunting Lab had an encounter in Portola Valley that was…err…hair raising). That cat is lucky to be alive. And you get the Mutual of Omaha award for daring photography (while Marlin Perkins hovers safely overhead in a chopper) 😉

  4. Yeah, seriously. I’m with Jeff and sbove, racoons are wicked little buggers. I’ll keep my camera (and fingers) out of arms reach!

  5. Is that a polydactyl cat? From this angle it looks like your ambitious raton laveur-fighter is sporting an extra thumb! Perhaps the odds are on your side, what with the psy-mutie freak cat you got.

  6. Impressive shot, and not one I’d try to take. The typical racoon is much tougher than the typical cat.

  7. Cat getting extra fresh!

  8. Go cat! I’m anti-raccoon myself, being a pet duck owner (well owned by the ducks really).

Is the cat completely in the air? I can’t see any paws touching the ground. The one on the raccoon’s nose looks like it connected.

  9. Is the cat smacking the raccoon on the nose? I’ve never seen a cat stand up to one.

  10. Yeah, it’s an airborne lunge and swipe to the nose.
