A rocket photo of the gorgeous 18th hole of the Ritz-Carlton HMB golf course. It was shot on vintage 110 film, embedded in the nose cone of a custom rocket with an E-size motor. The golfers on the tee box were hoping that I would capture them in action, but alas, the photo composition is a bit unpredictable.

  1. Even in total unprediction, you get a correct picture ! I like the way the road links right corners, at the other hand the sea is well left centered… Me and my son are very admirative 8)

  2. Oh my, how totally cool!!! I am fascinated by the thought that you sent a camera up in a rocket to take this!! Was the camera on a timer? Did it take a bunch of shots? You said it was 110 film, was it a disposable camera?

Sorry for the questions, but I am intrigued, and I love this shot!! It looks like a shot from a rocket!! 🙂

  3. very cool! i loved rocketry but never had such a cool payload!

  4. Very cool, where did it land….!

  5. zenera: by the edge of the golf course. The coastal wind takes the parachute on a steady course.

janoid: on this rocket the film is in the top of the rocket facing sideways. There is a 45-degree mirror to reflect the view looking forward. The shutter is released when the nose cone pops off. So the trick is to get an engine with the right time delay after the launch burn so that it pops the parachute right after apogee (so the nose cone is pointing back to Earth).

Frame grabs from a rocket video camera are much easier. =)
    Here are 3 different rockets:
