Rocket huggers everywhere at XPRS.

Actually, this gentle gesture is to listen for the audible chirps that signal that the on-board electronics are armed properly.

You can see, and hear, this one launch with a N-size motor, video on Revver [Doh! Revver is no more; wish I had used YouTube]. It was a perfect launch in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada… the only place in the country (and probably the world) with a 100K ft. launch waiver from the FAA.

These motors leave a crater in the clay at takeoff. Moments earlier, a rocket shredded at Mach 2 on an L motor.

September should be a fun month. I am trying to decide between XPRS and BALLS which are back-to-back weekends in Black Rock Desert this year….

  1. It is like "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb." I just hope he lets go before liftoff!

  2. Mmmmmm, coool. What size rocket are you going to field?

  3. Both??? Too bad they arent a couple weeks earlier… I wouldnt mind heading out to Burning Man and just staying in the desert for a few weeks.

Man, those rockets must be something! The clay out there is pretty tough!

  4. i think they should combine Burning Man and XPRS into one event…… just imagine the possibilites!
    😮

  5. LOL. Uh, there’d be some Darwin awards given out at Burning XPRS, let me tell you that! On the other hand, maybe someone would get some good zero G.

  6. and…
how much do you love me?
    the usual tricky questions.

  7. LOL, oh please don’t be asking that at Burning XRPS, nor even worse at Burning BALLS. Though the JATO fantasies would have to be ruled out, making them perfect test questions… Hmmm…

  8. There could be explosive reactions to the answers, eh? 😛

Hey, somebody said something about a Turning Man… Burning Man… Puny man…

    …?

  9. Stay for a week and do both XPRS and BALLS. Plenty to do in Gerlach…. not!

  10. LOL Bunny Man. Now I have to say rocket man in this context! *shakes a fist* This innocent shot turns into a horror picture shot, where the rocket is about to maul that poor man! *sob*

/me yells at the Photo, "No mister, don’t put your ear up there! It’s a trap!"

Look at it this way Victor, it’s another week living with the rockets, learning their ways!

  11. haqy they found the WMD’s at last.

  12. Looks like a great time. I understand some have cameras in them to get an aerial shot.

  13. Yes. Here are some of my shots from various rockets…
