Finally, a break in the rain… and a chance to see what’s crawling around.

The moss-encrusted bark was swollen with moisture. A section of bark had fallen away from the tree, providing fresh wood for fungal growth and a salamander shelter.

(edit: this is not HDR or Photoshopped; it was the wild color that caught my eye)

  1. great work, are those the actual colors of the salamander´s?

  2. Yeah, an interesting match to the tree from this low-angle (both got reflections of purple from above). When I was standing, the tree and salamander turned out more brownish in the photos from above. A common camo of moisture perhaps…

  3. Woah! Those colors! Neat!

…which planet was this taken at I may ask?

  4. Paying attention to details like these makes one appreciative of nature and of life.

  5. wow! great find and very cool image!

  6. photos like this make me think: "life must be built into matter" and not the other way around…such astounding creative exuberance and novelty! and another great composition from macro maestro jurvetson.

  7. ps: photos like this also make me think: life.exe is all one big code-base…billions of symbiotic modules (that we call "species") comprising a single self referential and infinitely evolving run-time environment…not that crazy a thought really…and the OS is a wonderfully elegant set of rules we call "the laws of physics"…OS Universe & Life.EXE…

  8. If you squint, you can see The Matrix in that tree…

You reminded me of my Ode to Carbon

  12. Where did you take this? Was it local? Amazing!

  13. Yeah, it was just across the street. Some great trails there.

Thanks y’all. It was some magic light… easily missed… as it depended on the angle of view
