Seen 15 feet above ground at Castle Rock.

A dog can detect identical twin humans by smell alone. Much of a dog’s brain is devoted to nasal memory (related to their sensory input – a nose close to the ground).

  1. Reminds me to ► Oingo Boingo ♫

    Animals came from miles around
So tired of walking so close to the ground
They needed a chance, that’s what they said
Life is better walking on two legs

  2. wow, that song is Animal Farm-esque y´know…

I like this you say on sensory inputs conditioning what we perceive the world is. For a dog the world can be many things, sure, but it is basically a place to be sniffed. Sniffable.

I realized this in a special way last year observing my litle niece (daugther of a friend) growing up. Jesus, for a baby the world is mainly… suckable! And cryable-.

Then, touchable it seems. Then talkable, I guess, but she didn´t arrive to that part yet. Then… climbable? runnable? playable?

How could we say the world is for a grown up human, in a general sense, following this thought about sensory inputs? Thinkable?

    😛
    (or not)

  4. I worried this might be grosser from the title. 😉

  5. Me too – I was expecting an extreme macro shot… but I can’t say I’m disappointed!

  6. The dog looks like he’s standing in a giant nostril. Thus the caption takes a different meaning. A nose explored by a nose… (or self-referential nose spelunking?).
    Ceci n’est pas une caverne.
Maybe the dog’s nose is being explored by a flea at the same time.
