This old scratched photo brings back many fond memories of adventures around campus.

The Dish is not just an enormous 150-ft diameter radio telescope overlooking Silicon valley. It was an enigmatic jungle gym for some atavistic adults. Here we are at the very top, after peering over the edge.

Twenty years have passed since this photo from the top, and so I felt the urge for a reunion with The Dish (photos to follow).

  1. So are they demolishing the big dish too, or just the smaller ones?

  2. I think that this satellite dish is possibly of a "grandeur" comparable to your dreams at 19. You may of had a lot of dreams then but had you really imagined that you would have been doing all the things that you do now and would have met all the people that you meet now?

  3. does anyone else see Harry Potter here:?

  4. ‘sat the "wild man"?

  6. Ah, Susan, you always contribute such a wonderful perspective in this stream! Yes, I do see what you see. LOL Good one!
Isn’t it interesting how a photograph can stimulate the imagination of each person in a very different way and illicit unique images?! That is why it is never boring here, in Flickr and most particularly in "Jurvetson"’s page.

  7. merci!

Vanita: On the right is a geek in glasses as a young man…. A mellow dorm mate on the left… My "wild man" dorm mate was the photographer.

    And looking down…

  8. I see no geek here, just bright inquisitive and adventurous young men. It is really a matter of perspective.

  9. jurvet-san! I recognized you. Twenty-ish years have nary left a mark.

It is my understanding that wild man dorm mates find the best kind of trouble to get into.
