… look like young cows with antlers

  1. did you know that male reindeer loose their antlers this time of year, they only have them for rutting. The females don’t loose them because they need antlers to defend their young. So Santa’s reindeer pulling his sleigh are actually females (figures they do all the work 😉

    Happy Holidays!

  2. Hmmm…. reminds me of the elk:
    crown of horns

    and the social insects…
    Little Women

The honey bees and the ants that you see above ground… buzzing around and doing all the work… well, they are all female.

  3. Nice picture of the reindeers. I actually just saw these reindeers about an hour ago at the zoo. too bad it was raining or I would have taken some more pictures of them.

    Merry Christmas!!!

I noticed you took the picture on the 23rd I was there also that day trying out my new zoom lense I bought. 🙂

  5. dabbler, that´s a very interesting point.

Perhaps the Santa traditional imagery and depiction is just for semantic purposes. To prevent the reindeers from looking like young cows (without antlers)… :-***

  6. Very cool – a pic of the Real thing ! Luv it !
    Merry Christmas !

  7. Thanks for the photo of the Real Thing! Who would have guessed.

  8. Wow Dabbler, I didn’t know that.

They are very cute, I had never seen real reindeer before.
