Are you sure that isn’t just rings around Uranus?
But seriously, folks… Hello? Is this thing on…?
It’s a cool photo and with very little noise for 200 iso.
Oh bummer, it’s not a puzzle. I was going to go with "space-faring mollusc."
Edit: *Giant* space-faring mollusc. Just to be clear.
puzzling, I think. Captivating and mesmerizing simultaneously, expanding and retracting. I wish I understood,(it looks like the eels somehow).
Rocketeer: oh, those nasty rings…
caitlinburke: nice guess… there’s nothing quite as exciting as a clam in heat
Sol1: ah yes… it’s very seductive…. and very much like a comet….
Per your wish, it’s a pellet of “dry ice” floating on a shallow bed of dark blue water and shooting off geysers of carbon dioxide as it warms up. The dry ice is solid CO2 which sublimates directly to gas as it warms up (skipping the liquid phase altogether).
Particles glide along the surface, spin, and merge when they touch. Here is a very cool video of the icy bodies spinning and shooting around.
Seven years ago, the Stardust probe was sent to intercept Comet Wild 2, gather dust particles, and return to Earth. Stardust is scheduled to touch down in a Utah desert on January 15. The mission is called Stardust, in part because some of the particles in the comet should, in fact, be older than the sun…
Very sharp looking…..couldn’t remotely guess it at first glance. Nicely done
