against all odds…..

  1. Spirit fires
    On a lake will dance
    Let them drink
    Accelerants
    And they will light
    Their hairs
    And take a twirling chance….

  2. Steve, is this after it crashed into your pool? 😉

  3. What is the feature immediately above the Alieness’ comment, which seems to have a boxed outline? It looks as though a prism were hovering there in the flames.

  4. I thought it was all *just* flames… and because of the apparition of a birdy shape (whose heart I marked with my little box) ‘against all odds…’ was what it made him call the pic Phoenix, alluding the story of the bird rebirthing from fire and ashes… But I might be wrong, if I am the only one who saw that. (!)

  5. Not awake yet but I see it….now.
    Bravo.
P.S. I hate it when my pool catches on fire.

  6. heh… too much Coppertone floating on the surface….

Sol1: I was ruminating on how some people find a reservoir of dedication to defy the odds, like a phoenix from the flames.

Alieness reverberates… and the Silvis river of rhymes reflects sublime every time….

Greco-Tom: Fire is cool… makes me want to go launch some rockets….

  7. So, you didn´t see the bird, then.

I guess your rumination will lead you to a big quotation mark. And you will believe that those defiers are strange creatures. Or virtuosos. But they aren´t.

Dedication per se doesn´t exist. It is the visible outcome (the means) of being passionate about something (the motives). Read: "have faith in", too. You will never understand dedication enough to defy all odds, unless you go deeper and dig out the roots for such apparent ‘obstination’.

You can see how easily a person stops defying the odds, once their motif changes or vanishes. Or it is discovered to be a lie, a fantasy, a mask, a fraud, a spoof. When the motif turns out to be untrue no dedication alone can save the day. Game over.

You may, imho, ponder on passion, instead. Passion and inner truth. And why not about sincerity? It´s part of the whole escenario. 🙂

  8. I saw the bird too.. jumped right out at me before reading any of the comments in fact. Must be something to do with how we’re wired.

  9. …a Jungian pareidolia….

(knock, knock… who knows how far that rabbit hole goes…. follow that link to the wikipedia definition… which takes you to the 23 enigma…)

    and Neo mutters

    there is no bird

    =)

  10. That’s fantastic! I noticed it before I saw your title or the note.

  11. This gave me the inspiration for a little Photoshop doodling:

The title of this doodle is "Pareidolic".

  12. cubist pointillism… Up close, it looks like a bikini…. From a distance, I see Michael Jackson.

  13. You’re not the only person to see Michael Jackson.

I wondered whether there might be an evolutionary relationship between the shape of the human face and the arrangement of the primary and secondary sexual features on a woman’s body. Desmond Morris has speculated that the human female breasts may be evolutionary mimicry of the buttocks. What a weird thought.

  14. Again, excellent image!

  15. Very nice! ("cool" would be the wrong word). I wonder how you got two fantastic animals in one fire shot…

  16. Wow! This is amazing.

  18. I see it too, and looking at it a bit more I think I prefer the dragon and its seated pose.

    Anyway, great shot.
