The crocodile ancestor Tekwan wandered the primal water-covered world, guided by a bird on his nose, searching for dry land for humans to populate. Tekwan is seen as the agent that brought the earth out of the water as well as the earth itself.

“Tekwan is the earth. He is living and breathing… This earth, this crocodile is eating our rotting bodies and getting fat. When it appeared out of the water, the earth was small… but now you can’t see its end. When I came across the world to America, I saw that this story is true… the earth has grown huge from eating our rotting bodies, rotting animals, rotting plants.”
