This is just a red laser pointed into the camera.

Interestingly, the monochromatic red laser light saturates the CCD to white and yellow at the core. And purple flares arise, perhaps from other lens effects.

Part of the laser art set.

  1. Here comes the sun… And I say: It´s alright.

  2. How powerful are these lasers you are playing with? Any idea how the CCDs behave when the laser starts pumping up in power? My roomate has a cutting laser (he owns a fashion manufacturing business plug = http://www.sinthetex.com), and I have a few older digicams….

Perhaps a good candidate for the Technology Abuse Group?

  3. Careful you don’t ruin your CCD!

  4. Well, thats kinda the point, to see what they do on the edge. Most likely they just go white… but maybe not. I have a 1.3 megapixel camera that I used for a couple years (geez that makes me feel old, my cell phone has a better camera than that now) and dont foresee ever using it again. At its highest setting, the laser can cut through marble, so it will probably do some interesting things to the camera.
