Inspecting an optical circuit after the wafer dicing saw step.
Many labor tasks – from retail to security to manufacturing – seemed to go for triple redundancy.
So what are they making??
Palin: I can’t disclose the details. Generally, they are optical integrated circuits for fiber optic networks. These tend to be quite valuable.
I’m curious, why is she holding the wafer in her hands? And what can she inspect with the unaided eye? This looks very strange to me.
She is inspecting the edge for cracks or imperfections from the wafer saw. These "chips" are larger than typical electronics ICs and edge integrity is important.

Cool picture. Those are large wafers.
