One of several successful launches of a remote-controlled rocket glider with on board video camera. It would do swoops and rolls over the audience.

(from the LUNAR launch fest in Livermore yesterday)

  1. "successful"?

Sure you didn’t mislabel this one? Looks like a CATO to me. 😛

  2. This is the first stage, and despite the strange side flare, it ignited the second stage just fine.

…a good "bat out of hell" effect….

  3. Someone needs to post that flight video!

  4. Any camera based video? That would be cool footage.

  5. I emailed the club president to ask if they have it…

There are some more photos under the "recent photos" tab at http://www.lunar.org

  6. fun! love the puffy smoke!

  7. stills don’t do justice to vids but there all over in … but seconds..

  8. a nice quote from a LUNAR email:

"In terms of sheer coolness, few things beat rocketry."
    – Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft

I am really looking forward to XPRS next month… That should be insane.

  9. …The man knows of which he speaks!

The bottom line is that semi-controlled explosions are completely awesome. The only thing more fun then blowing shit up is launching shit. =)

  10. Where do you get all these cool toys?

    Very nice catch, photographically speaking.

  11. sure looks like one, but no… It flew without incident if I recall.

I’m guessing that there is a special blast shield redirecting the exhaust to protect the delicate glider…
