“As you can see, there is a statistically significant inverse relationship between pirates and global temperature.” Check out this open letter to the Kansas School Board. The data is compelling, and the potential PR strategy is sublime… 😉

Alien Intelligent Design is a growing movement (let’s call it AID). The FSM says Ramen.

{side note: I noticed that today, mid 2005, the 100,000th visitor viewed my flickr home page. I suspect most of them are aliens, but they are most welcome.}

  1. Help the global environment, save a pirate!

What they don´t say here is, however, in which considerable amount today´s pirates contribute to the Global Average Temperature increase. In comparison to their cold antecesors, that is. Today they are less, but they are hot! Yarrr!

I admit I am talking from my own experience. There is only one pirate for me, I can´t tell for the other 16.

P-) <— this is my pirate with his eye patch

I won´t say anything about the ‘AID’… yet. All this info altogether connected has surpassed me.

    |-) *blink blink*

  2. What this graph tells me is that Pirates can’t take the heat…

  3. Now, that is an *interesting* observation. 😎

  4. huh. I’ll be dammed.

  5. My Dear Genius Jurvetson,

    1. The more you attempt to evade Cosmology and Ontology, the more your destiny becomes clear. You are not a Technologist…you are a Philosopher! Give in to your destiny, Aquinas.

    2. Your graph ingeniously proves two of my theories:

    (a) the Noodly Almightly will always provide manna when needed

    (b) when the Sun’s entropy eventually plunges the Earth into total darkness, it is not Absolute Kelvin we humans shall fear…it’ll be the Pirates!

    Your Jolly,
    Roger

  6. Jolly Roger: Astute as always. Absolute Zero -> Infinite Pirates.

    May you forever be

  7. Kelvin would represent the worst pirate pest in the history of the planet. (Zero was -270ºC or something, right?)

    Excellently put.

Hopefully we won´t survive the cold, firstly.

And I agree, J, your friend Roger is very astute. Very very. And perceptive. He knows you quite well, doesn´t he?

    Pleased to meet you Roger!

And talking Destiny, here there is another person who knows you, too, and he is also advising the same.

  8. excuse me gentlemen… Is sir astute Roger whether related to… Wildwood Hotels?

    or Victor?

Anyway, nice neon -way better than crossed bones and that obsolete stuff-.

  9. wow. what an interesting link…. not quite as funny, though…. 😉

  10. Indeed.

Despite my very own belief (which I decided to let it be a big "?" regardless who may be right or wrong about it) I guess it is a great thing to be open-minded enough to understand that creationism, evolutionism, flyingspagetthimonsterism are theories and as such are a core of believes about a certain subject.

Thus science, literature and religion are ontologically the same. At least at the cognitive level. We discussed this at your blog, Steve.

And since we can´t put the discussion up to any other level than our brain cognitive capabilities, I suggest that common agreement on this, hence some loads of sensible tolerance would be such an improvement for us all, for the world´s peace.

Sorry, this post was meant to be fun I know, but it is unavoidably connected with a crucial issue of our lives as individuals and as community. Thx for the link, James.

  11. Holes In The Sky Journey:

    The holes in the sky
    Were transfered from the hearts
    When consciousness broke
    Itself
    It scattered into parts
    Same made sun wheels
    And some made carts
    Some thought a lot
    Many made social idols
    For their darkened hearts

    Some split away to
    Study stars
    Some studied metals
And made the race of cars

    But still we diced
    And chopped the heart
    Sliced our primal consciousness
    Apart

Some made religion an easy ink
    To tale themselves
    So not to think
They axed on science in a war
    And flattened more consciousness
    To the floor…

    The Original Child’s
    First Law :
    Empathic eyes.
The Second Law of parents :
    Break it down with lies
The Third Law of them :
    Disguise it all again
    The Fourth Law :
Give it false love and name ,
Attach it into social shame .

    The "Fifth State" :
    Now you have broke
    The eyes from heart ,
    And made a glue ,
    Of punish you
    You see it slide
    Inside …

You will travel at the :
    "Speed of Ignorance"
    And nod while hypnotised
You will not have original self
    But only our shared eyes

    The 6th state :

    Release me on my own
I caught a star still in my
    Bone
I caught a piece of light
    It was original
    Its speed and flight
It woke the wonder in my
    Heart
    The one they crushed right
    From the start
    And then I knew , I knew
    With pain
    I was apart…

    It was not alchemy
    Standing alone
It was the message I held to
    In the child’s aboriginal bone
I came to science and poetry ,
    I came home

    And found the leads
    The other speeds
    And blended them
    With cure of sad
By boundary of tears and mad :

    The speed of thought
The speed of ignorance I was taught
The speed of sound across the ground
    The slower speed of hurt
Coupled in the mad and sad
    The speed of light
    The beautiful
    The speed of mend
The speed of kindness and of blend
The speed of story it, in Art
    The place
    The grace
    The speed that’s Galaxy eyed
The speed of pure extended heart..

So holes are visioned by facts
    To examine any history
    And all its social acts
    Whether in the air
Or cultures that make each child
    Despair……

This was a good and thought provoking picture.. thanks it made me write the poem and think and feel a lot ..

  12. wow… I am still trying to grok all the richness in your poem….

…and I just got this in an email from Texas:

  13. update: the FSM made the NYT today….

And Intelligent Falling was in the Onion earlier in the month….

  14. Something smells fishy…

    From your link above:

"Things fall not because they are acted upon by some gravitational force, but because a higher intelligence, ‘God’ if you will, is pushing them down," said Gabriel Burdett, who holds degrees in education, applied Scripture, and physics from Oral Roberts University.

Nice! =) I still abide Newton in this case, tho.

  15. You people are heretics. The one true FSM is actually misnamed. His noodly appendages are actually vermicelli.

This could be the start of a schism.

Let us begin the Inquisition whereupon the impure shall be shown the truth. Free garlic bread! Pirates drink free!

  16. Statistics at their best!!

  17. You know, I’d swear on His Noodliness that the last man on the evolutionary road (cartoon) resembles Barney Pell…

  18. Kevbo: "Pirates drink free!"

    What about a Piratess? 8-]

    *wink wink*

    =D

  19. all genders, clearly….

Yetivera: Very funny! I’ll ping him to see if he agrees that he is the pinnacle of evolution…. 😉

  20. Ha! By his Noodliness, I resemble that remark…
I’d prefer to look more like Adam in the "touched by noodle appendance" painting, of course…

  21. Am I missing something? I am not sure where the cartoon is that Yetivera refers to — and I really do want to see Barney’s incarnation as the apex of evolution. He might want to charge me more rent if this becomes established fact…

  22. Yarg… she’s gettin’ warm outside, matey!

  23. Hey… now they have a specialized ergonomic keyboard for pirates:

  24. Arrrrrrrrr! Great finding Kev!

Setpember 19: Talk like a Pirate Day?!

    P-D

  25. Great stuff… thanks!

I just noticed a fine wikipedia summary of recent FSM developments…

And, like Nostradamus, I have found subtle hidden clues that his noodly appendage has left throughout history…

    Santa's Tombstone

  26. Hey, I never been back to you on this about… "Steveism"?… I found the song SUPER! and the project even more super!

    P-)

  27. Did someone say "Pirates drink FREE"????

  28. by definition, and being made of S, is the FSM Italian? so once again, we’re back to the problem of having a "chosen people"…i might have to rethink my allegiance to this higher power now.

(…although we all know where marco polo got the idea of spaghetti from :))

  29. There´s hope that we may enjoy the pirates around increasingly and for a long time… Kinky has the solution: Global Cooling
