Built in 1500, St. Olav’s Church was the tallest building in the world. (It lost the equivalent of nine stories in a 1650 fire.) But the height record was not passed until the 19th century.

  1. Alieness: when completed in 1500, it was 159 meters tall.

    That record was first surpassed in 1885… by the Washington Monument!

  5. revisiting this page…. so did Estonia hold the record for the tallest building in the world for the longest period of time? Today, the record is held for such a short time by any one building….
