The cheetah is the only cat without retractable claws. Like a dog, the claws are always out, which helps with running traction, but wears them to a dull point.

When running, the cheetah expands and compresses like an accordian. It has a uniquely flexible spine and a pelvis that rotates; otherwise it would not be capable of the land speed record. It expands to an incredible stride of 23 feet and completes four strides per second.

The King Cheetah has a recessive fur pattern mutation. First discovered in Zimbabwe in 1926, this very rare animal has been seen in the wild only 6 times. More info.

Yes steve, Speed was invented after me! ๐Ÿ˜› See, dont I look cool even in my past life. ๐Ÿ˜›

  3. cheetahs are stupendous animals. Hard to fathom just how fast they go. 4 strides a second is beyond words. They really should get their pick of whatever dinner they like at that speed, but somehow it doesn’t end up that way…

  4. this one looks very unheapy.

  5. What a beatiful animal . . . love the accordian analogy.

  6. Yes, love the analogy…DO NOT love the chain.
