   – It is brown, bah… different warm tones forming circular patterns… it has various pleats and the texture feels like, mmm, velvet…

   – must be a gorgeous dress!

   – "dress"? mmm… not exactly. +)

   kytheria: it is a fungus among us…. on the side of a piece of wood.

   Eppie: The growth ring resemblance to the trees they grow on is uncanny. As for parallels, the human body is a federation of cells and cells are a historical endosymbiosis of simpler organisms. In plants, the chloroplasts that make photosynthesis work evolved from endosymbiotic cyanobacteria.

   The growth ring resemblance to the trees they grow on is uncanny.

   Any idea how the rings in the fungus arise? Is this outward growth? How fast? What causes the color changes?

    In another photo of your fungi, zene, hira3 said that these chaps can actually kill the tree that hosts them. =( Evil creatures and they look so lovely!
