  1. Looks like a big modular synth. I’d say a Buchla.

  2. If I trust the manual on top, it’s a general catalog, but I don’t think I trust it.

I basically don’t have a clue, but it looks like it might be some sort of analog computer.

  3. damn! Genista got it on a whim. And within 15 minutes! A flickr land speed record.

    EAI analog computer, Model TR-20
    Manufacturer: EAI, Inc.
    Original Price: $10,000
    Original Date: 1964

I’ll post a photo from the manual of it….

  4. Ah, bummer, sorry to have closed guessing so soon. I enjoyed reading through the other puzzle’s discussions.

Very cool machine. I hope it’s sitting in the hallway to go to its new, loving home, and not to be thrown out.

  5. ah yes…. it is well loved and coveted at a medical laboratory. The owner intends to get it working again.

  6. Nice job Genista,
Don’t be sorry, the faster it goes the harder will be the next one ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. Genista is the fastest guesser of the West…

Welcome to the guessing team. OldCola is our Guru. I had a bit of fortune at the beginning but I burnt out… anyway they still allow me to make disgressions and silly comments. I am like the fool on the hill.

    The Fooless, actually. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. I know! I know! It turns garden hoses inside out for cookies!

  9. Wow!! That looks like the Pace TR-20 Analog Computer! I used two of these guys for my senior project in engineering, 1966-67. Analog Simulation of atmospheric reentry. It was a lot of work for two credits, but a great learning experience. I think I may still have the manual for the computer. Where is this equipment located?

  10. It is a TR-20… Operational, with manuals at DFJ InCube Labs

  11. Amazing. I don’t think I’ve seen an analog computer in operation, anywhere, in the last 25 years. I always thought they still had potential for certain problems, but…. Anyway, I did find my report, and the programming manual, both very yellowed. It would be fun to try to reproduce that program again…

You folks wouldn’t have a Clary DE-60 lying around, would you? That was the first digital computer I fiddled with. Rotating drum memory and patch panel programming… I would NOT want to reattempt programming that beast. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. jurvetson or jerryfi_99 – I have an EAI PACE TR-20 and I am interested in restoring it. Do either of you have access to the manuals and are you willing to scan them?

    Great puzzle photos BTW.

  13. Dev, I sent you a flickr email.
