thanks y’all
Next month, an unprecedented photoshoot will take place in this valley. It’s the creation of the largest digital picture ever shot, using 18 gigapixel panorama rigs all fired off simultaneously, and then integrated into a 3D fly-through model. (Project site)

Nothing catastrophic thankfully, …the fires in the valley were burning so intensely that there was too much acrid smoke on top of the mountain…the valley views were blurred to non-existent…and the lungs were hurting from all the smoke atop the mountain. 2011 has been a bad year for Yosemite…I think >10 deaths, and 7 on the Half-Dome trail.
PS: Then I noticed that your hike was in 2004!
A publisher just asked me "what was going through your head as you made this great image?"
I was thinking: Don’t look down. I peered over the edge briefly, and even though I was on my belly on a flat rock, it was terrifying. The rock juts out over a pure vertical drop. Then a rock climber, almost to the top, asks me what time it is, and I can barely move my arm out to look at my watch.
