i love Montserrat – and how it rises as such a unique geological form in the area (composed of river delta conglomerates left exposed after the submerging of the nearby Balearic continent, in case anyone didn’t know).
we camped up there on the dry, hard ground and it has to be one of the best (if uncomfortable) campsites i’ve ever been to… beautiful, eerie owl hoots all night, and the sunrise making the otherworldly monoliths glow a spectacular colour of warm pink.
also walked along the very steep southern ridge which was poorly-maintained, overgrown, and not following the route shown on the map, which quickly got us into trouble – we escaped back the way we came with a lot of scratches from the scrub and a few shaky moments.
