This is the heart of the Commonwealth Fusion SPARC reactor in Devens, MA. Magnetic fusion will help power the 10x growth in electricity needed by 2030 for AI data centers and EVs, with emission-free baseload energy.
After slipping through a concrete serpentine walkway that provides the safety shield for any hot neutrons that may escape, we enter this chamber.
At the center is the circular mount ring for SPARC. Each of the 18 holes radiating out like flower petals are for the RF pipes aligned with the ring of D-shaped superconducting 20T magnets that compress and contain the plasma to ignite a tiny star.
