For those of you who follow any of my sites, you may have noticed things have been a bit… quiet lately.
I’m still here, and I will be getting back into the swing of things soon, I hope. But, I wanted to kinda open the curtain a bit on my personal life to explain where I’ve been.
As you already know, I started a new job with Automattic. It’s certainly been keeping me busy getting used to a new job, but that hasn’t been what has kept me out of the game.
My wife and I have decided to call it quits. While it is sad, it’s a solid decision and we still get along, just not as a married couple. As part of deciding what goes where, I got the house which I can sell to eliminate some of the debt with any proceeds.
The only catch was the house was in need of a little love. What I thought would be a week of general touch up projects like painting quickly got out of control. So I’ve spent the last month and a half doing all kinds of construction projects including redoing most of the floors in the house. As is often the case I wildly underestimated both the cost and time involved to take care of things.
I have finally finished most of the work, but then immediately had to fly out to Utah for Automattic’s annual all-employee gathering. In fact, I’m writing this from the hotel lobby during a lull in the action.
Automattic has been great during the whole process, allowing me to take off all the time I needed to make sure shit got done. And trust me, that took a lot of time. I can’t think of any other job where I would have been able to handle the sheer workload flipping your own house essentially involves.
I fly back home tomorrow and I meet with the realtor on Wednesday to photograph the house and get the listing done. I’m hoping once those final details are settled out, I can start working on my blogs again. I especially want to apologize to those vendors whose reviews got caught in this mess and have been patiently waiting for me to get their stuff reviewed. Soon, I promise 🙂
And of course I’m super thankful to my employer for being so damned cool. So, I’ll see you all online again, very soon.
